01 Mar ONE Year Later
It is hard to believe that ONE YEAR AGO I embarked on this journey to create TheHipsterEngineer.com. It has been a very rewarding experience that has helped me to assist others, and and learn a lot about myself.
The last year has been a blur, and I have had a lot of things happen. There have been a lot of late nights trying to make things just right. There have also been weeks where work and life have gotten the best of me and I haven’t been able to give the people what they want on the website. Taking a step back, I wanted to highlight a few of the wins, the updates, the accomplishments, and the happenings because of the journey that I started one year ago.
Thank you for going on this journey with me! I appreciate all of the support that I get from my readers, strangers, coworkers, family and friends. You are what inspires me to keep going on this journey.
Now before I highlight the past year, I have to highlight my main support in all of this. Without this person, none of this would be possible. My wife, Jaime, not only branded ‘The Hipster Engineer’ (‘THE’) but she is patient and supports all of my crazy ideas that have branched off from this. She is patient and supportive in all aspects of this adventure that we are on. While I may be the face of ‘THE’, she quite literally created it! I may be a little biased, but she is really amazing. Check out what she has been up to in the graphic design world HERE!
Beyond the main website, here are the latest updates, accomplishments and happenings:

Last year around this time the website was born, and it has since been added upon from day one. The latest pages that have been added to the website include:

Each of these additions to the website took a bit of effort to put together, so I hope that there is come value that you find in them. As with everything else in life, I am always looking to learn and grow, so if you have suggestions of what you might want to see next or if there is something that can be improved then please let me know.
Guest Speaker at a Few Events
Last year I was able to speak on two different occasions to groups of engineers and students, then participate on a panel at one another event.
I was asked by the BYU Student Chapter of ASCE to stop by and present to their group of students, check out a brief summary HERE. I decided to talk to them about the different ways that they can set themselves apart in school, work, life, and beyond. I also gave them some practical tips as they begin to transition from school to a career. The following is a summary of what I covered.
The other speaking opportunity that I had was with the Structural Engineers Association of Utah (SEAU) during their monthly meeting to the younger members, check out a brief summary HERE. I decided to talk to them about the different ways that they can ROCK THE PE EXAM (as well as the FE and SE).
PE Exam Prep Classes
Last Fall, I started teaching PE Exam prep classes for PPI2Pass (a Kaplan Company) after they reached out to me. The courses that I taught were the PE Civil Breadth and the PE Civil Structural Depth review courses. It was a great opportunity for me to share my love for engineering and advice to help others pass their exam to become licensed. I enjoyed it and decided to teach again this Spring. I have been teaching the same classes, but this time around I will teach TWO PE Civil Structural Depth review courses, and my PE Civil Breadth class sold out!
It’s a bit of an adventure that I am excited to be on! It is amazing to be able to help numerous people over the past year as they prepare for their PE Exam. If you have any exam related questions, reach out to me! Or wait for the content to be added to the site.
What the future holds
Right now I am focused a little bit on my studies for the Structural Engineer (SE) Exam in the beginning of April, but when that is wrapped up you will see a lot more content updates on the site. I have quite a few things planned out, so stay tuned!
Subscribe to my newsletter to receive notifications for new ‘Secrets for the Modern Engineer’. I will notify you of new posts on the website, as well as other updates to help you further your career.
Keep on keepin’ on.
Life’s a garden… Dig it!
